Joseph E. Aoun, a leader in higher education policy and a renowned scholar in linguistics, is the seventh President of Northeastern University.
President Aoun has strategically aligned the University’s research enterprise with three global imperatives—health, security, and sustainability. Northeastern’s faculty focus on interdisciplinary research, entrepreneurship, and transforming academic research into commercial solutions for the world’s most pressing problems. During President Aoun’s tenure, the University has realized a 189 percent growth in external research funding, along with approximately 1,500 patent applications filed by faculty and students.
As a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, many small business owners pivoted to virtual offerings or delivery services in the last two years. As we enter the next phase of coping with the virus with a larger return to public life, one might ask: When is it time to consider opening up a physical shop (again)? In this panel discussion, Globe business reporter Jon Chesto will talk with CEO of NAIOP Massachusetts, Tamara Small; Former General Manager of Villa Mexico Cafe and Founding Member Mass Restaurants United, Bessie King; and President & CEO of Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce, Jim Rooney on the decision to move back to brick-and-mortar, or expand in other ways.
